The initial intention was to simplify and abstract the keys of the piano. Pushing further, an irregular curve of the keys implies not exclusively piano - more so, all musical sounds or instruments (ie. vocals, guitars, etc). The overall feel is a bit of a mash of the classical piano with modern style.
